When you think of your words over a given week, would you say your words are more positive or negative?…not necessarily toward your partner but in general? Many couples that have come to me quickly admit they are mostly negative. I commend them as one of the first steps to getting healthier in your relationship is to become aware of your words. Do your words build or tear down? Do your words discourage or encourage? Do your words create doubt or affirm? Some questions to ask before you speak to your partner are: Is it necessary? Is it supportive? Is it life-giving? Yes, there are times when we need to talk about things that are not positive but there is a time and place for this. If you want a healthy relationship, begin to be aware of your words. They are powerful!
